Installing procedures
Necessary Equipment
* 2 Stilson Keys, Spanish Keys.
* Teflon tape, or Sealer for Pipes.
* Pipe Brush.
Procedure for the installation:
In order to carry out the installation of the valve, you should make sure that the tubing is free of
sludge (like rough flange or weld) that could incrust in the seats of the valve (See Figure 2).
You should take the valve and screw it according to its connection (See Figure 3) to the installation, in
the direction indicated by the arrow on the valve’s body (See Figure 1) that indicates the course of the flow.
This valve design is for vertical and horizontal operation. It is able to avoid the fall of pressure due to
its interior design, and able to have an hermetic seal with interchangeable seats.
DANGER
In case the installation of the valve is done backwards, the valve will be pressurized and you won’t be able
to open it. The excess of pressure causes risk of explosion of the pipe system, and damage to the
pressure generator equipments and pumping flow.
Procedures in Case of Failure
In case of failure, it is important to determine the kind of trouble the valve presents. (See Failure Chart 1)
- In case of leakage caused by used seats, proceed to give replacement maintenance service.
- In case of leakage in Chevron (V-Packing), proceed to give replacement and adjustment maintenance service.
- In case of leakage between the body and the bonnet or cap, you should make an inspection to check if the
gland packing is not damaged or out of position.
- In case of opening or close problems, you must make sure that the valve is installed correctly
(correct direction: check the course indicated by the arrow). If it is correctly installed, remove the
pressure of the line and proceed to disassemble the valve. Make sure that there is no object inside the
valve that obstructs the disc actuator or between bonnet and stem.
- In case of damage on the thread, proceed to repair the damaged part so that the valve can work correctly.
You have to make sure that there are no incrustations of tartar or particles from the flow accumulated on
the thread. In case of managing solid particles in suspension of the flow, it is recommended to change
the design of the valve for an external thread valve in order to avoid damages in its upward part.
- In case of leakage in any part of the body or the support, make sure that there has not been welded or
has received any blows with hammers or metallic engines, and proceed to change the valve immediately. If
the body of the valve was not welded, hit, or there was some damage done outside of the normal operation of
the valve, send it to the manufacturer for inspection and determination if it is inside the guarantee.
- If the valve presents leakage in the seat or packing because of particles or temperature, you should make
sure that the valve is operating between the correct established temperatures for its use.
Failure Chart 1
- Leakage in the seat.
- Leakage of the bonnet.
- Leakage between the body and the bonnet.
- Opening or closing problems.
- Presence of hydrostatic pores in the body or bonnet.
- Leakage due to temperature.
Procedure Needed for the Maintenance of the Seat
- Make sure that there is no pressure in the line where the valve is installed.
- Open the valve totally; you do not need to remove the valve from the installation, just dismantle the
valve removing the big nut (34) or screws that fix the support or cap (23) to the body (9).
- In case of incrustation or sludge in the seat (2), proceed to change it by loosening it with the
special key.
- After removing the nut seat (29) from the interior of the body, remove the seat (2) without
damaging the rope (9).
- Clean any impurity that remains inside the body (9) and place the new seat (2) inside, (in the same
position in which the seat was before removing it) without needing to adjust or put any type of sealer.
- Introduce the nut seat (29) and press it up to the brim.
- After one minute, give it a slight turn so that the seat (2) can be accommodated to the form of the
body. With this, you will have a hermetic seal between the body and the new seat.
- Check that the choke (11) is free of sludge, the same as the packing (13), and proceed to
assemble the valve.
- Operate the valve two or three times in order to make sure that the seat was installed correctly
Procedure Needed for the Maintenance of the Chevron "V" Paching
For maintenance and repacking of the Chevron (V-Packing) (15):
-
The valve with pressure in the line must be completely open so that the offspring ring (1) can provide
a seal between the support or cap (23) and the offspring (36).
- Remove the nut cap (30) that holds to the steering wheel (38) and proceed to remove them from the valve.
- Loosen the small nut (31) and remove it.
- Remove the press tow (21).
- Take a new Chevron (V-Packing) and introduce it in the offspring (36).
- Take the press tow again (21) and introduce it in the rod (36).
-
Take the small nut (31) and place it in its original position and screw it at least three threads of
the rope of the support or cap (23).
- Place the steering wheel (38) and tighten it with the nut cap (30).
-
Open and close the valve two or three times, and, in case of leakage in the Chevron
(V-Packing) (15), tighten the small nut (31) until it stops; in case it continues, you will have to
proceed in the same way and remove the game of Chevron (V-Packing) (15) to replace a new one.
